Expressions of Interest - 2023
Square Pegs is inviting expressions of interest from young people with dyslexia (formal diagnosis is not required) to participate in a NoticeAbility course in 2023.
Inspired by the neuroscientific discoveries presented in 'The Dyslexic Advantage: Unlocking the Hidden Potential of the Dyslexic Brain' (Eide, Fernette F. and Brock L., New York: Penguin Group, 2012. Print), NoticeAbility’s curricula provides authentic inquiry experiences in vocational subject matters that cater to the neurological strengths of dyslexic students:
-
Entrepreneurs & Innovators
-
Engineering & Architecture
-
Consenses Arts & Storytelling
NoticeAbility courses are designed as a supplement to reading remediation, not a replacement. The ten-module courses highlight the strengths associated with dyslexia and provide students with practices exercises that help them recognise these attributes in themselves and understand their application in their field of interest.
Created with support from Harvard Business School, students are provided scaffolding to enhance their
social-emotion learning and executive functioning skills, which serve as a framework for academic and personal empowerment.
Ideally small groups of students will work together for 1-2 hours, twice a week for ten weeks (one term).
Course fees: to be confirmed.
Course duration: 20 hours
Deliver: in person and/or online
Student age range: 11-14 years
*Course delivery will be dependent upon interest and tutor availability.
